Project Description

The main objective Nemu is to gain a better understanding of freshwater ecosystems by studying the chemical properties, calculating the biotic index and trying to ascertain trophic relations. Chemical properties will provide us with an indication of nutrient uptake, pollution and environmental pressure on the system, whereas the biotic index will give us a clear indication of biodiversity. By studying the species present in our sampling we will be able to assess the effect of environmental pressures on the system. We will also compare our results to existing water management plans in order to validate our own measurements and gain a better understanding of the dynamics which influence the freshwater ecosystem. Finally we will also experiment with DNA – technology in order to identify the food sources of 2 to 3 different species on each trophic level.

The following scores were calculated using a statistically-driven machine-learning approach, a type of AI that learns to perform a task by analysing patterns in data. This is an experimental approach to citizen-science impact assessment, and the exact reasoning behind the scores is not explainable. The scores represent a best guess of the impact the project is having in each domain. Scores are recalculated and updated when “View impact report” is clicked.
